Today, Magoo is turning 3! She's getting so old! But now she says hilarious things like "oh boy!" and "that's awesome!" and "no, i'm a mermaid." I can't wait to get back to her at spring break, and I hope she likes the dollie and the new blankie that I made for her.

i have great friends...
I really do have wonderful friends. First of all, they let me test my new ideas on them. This is one I just figured out. You set your camera to bulb and then hold the shutter open while the subject essentially "paints" with light. I'm going to try it outside at night on Friday, and my friends are going to help me. :DThey also got me some pretty spectacular Christmas gifts. They obviously know me too well. My former roommate painted me a frame (frame-decorating being an idea I originally introduced to her). My friend Serena got me a vinyl of Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years. She said she invested in it not only because she knows he is my favorite, but also because he is wearing incredibly tight jeans and sporting quite a masculine moustachio. Lastly, my friend Rachel found a vintage copy of The All Colour World of Trains. It has beautiful pictures of trains all over the world.
In other news, I am going to have a radio show this semester on Fridays at 8am (my time, so 9am Montana time) with my friend Serena on Puget Sound's radio station KUPS. It can be streamed from that website if anyone is interested in listening.

Alright. I must run off to class, but I will try to post more of my coast pictures from the train soon.

too many crime dramas...
I know I've been watching too much Dexter and Criminal Minds when a metaphor like this pops up in an essay.
"If history is a type of metaphorical blood-spatter-analysis, each drop is crucially important; only by analyzing the trajectory of each drop can the originating action be discovered and understood."

along the water
This first week of classes has been good, but stressful. I've ended up dropping my French minor and switching my classes around. I also have found out that even if I study in Austria for the whole year next year, I can still graduate a semester early. Other than that, it has been good. My hours for work are good, and I'm just happy as a clam with my other classes. :D

rainbows and rainbows
Yesterday, on the train, between Edmonds and Seattle, it was wildly full of rainbows! I decided to take some photos, which captured (somewhat) the rainbows, but which turned out very grainy and streaky due to the (very) dirty window. However, here they are anyways. Please excuse the streaky nature of them.

Bittersweet...
Today is a bit bittersweet. I'm leaving to go back to the coast. I'm excited to get back to school and get my brain moving and see all of my friends, but I have to leave Harlee (and the fam) behind. She's so special to me. I also have to leave Nic behind, but I'm hoping that maybe by the next time I see him, he'll have calmed down a little (ha!). I did make Harlee a dollie and a blanket with Tinkerbell on one side and Ariel on the other (she picked out the fleece and threw a fit when we didn't get to keep the big bolts of fabric) for her birthday. Hopefully (now that Kirsten has the internet again) we'll be able to skype and Harlee will talk to me on the phone. So... off I go to finish packing. I'm returning with one more bag than I brought home. It would be great if I didn't have to sit next to a really old woman who takes up more than her fair share of the seat. Ideally I won't have to sit next to anyone and I can stretch out and sleeeeeeeeeeeep.

the first attempt
This is my first attempt at making a doll (inspired by these). It didn't go swimmingly, exactly, but it went fine for it being my first chance. For the next one I will make a bigger body, and lower the arms, as her limbs are a bit string-beany, and she doesn't have much of a neck. I don't think Harlee will mind too much anyways.
